Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18 in 2000) is an American actress and a singer. Her career spans more than 40 years. A torch singer noted for her sultry, languid contralto voice, London recorded over thirty albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 and 1969. Her recording of "Cry me a river" the track she released on her debut album, was accepted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated for an Golden Globe Award for 1974 due to her performance in Emergency as Nurse Dixie McCall. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year-long acting career began around 1944 with roles in movies. These included roles as the lead female role in numerous westerns. She also appeared with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958), and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). She signed a recording deal with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This was the start of her professional musical career. In 1969 she released her final studio album. But, she continued to be part of the Emergency series as Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) and was co-starring with Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband was the producer of the show.
