Lee Roy Selmon blends the advantages of a scholarship to football in his family with community service. In the first place, he was born with Lucious and Jessie Selmon on the farm close to Eufala within Oklahoma as the youngest of their nine children. Another reason for his football career was that his father was the only of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's most effective lineman. Over the course of three seasons, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy serving as their starting line-up. The team also took home the national title twice. In his role as a National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon received an award for his third time in 1975. Selmon is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in educational studies. Lee Roy's fourth volunteer service included ten hours per week of volunteer time in college. In Tampa, he played for the Buccaneers for nine seasons before becoming an all-pro. Additionally, he started a career in business. In 1988, while working as an account representative at First Florida Bank of Tampa He was a member of the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 The Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized him as one of Ten of America's top young males. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in the height department and weighed 256 lbs as a college player he was captain of the team in 1975. In 1993 he was appointed assistant director of the University of South Florida. In 1988, he was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame. The same year, he also was a part of his way into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 gave its Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. The award ceremony was conducted by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
